About this Event
In this 3-hour workshop, you will learn practical ways to extend the life of your favorite garments through old and new mending techniques. You will have the opportunity to try three methods that you’ll be able to use now and long into the future. Leave with a mending sampler for future reference. Beginning hand-sewing skills helpful but not required. Space is limited to 25 participants!
This workshop is presented in partnership with the Foster City Library.
Supplies: None required. However, if you have a basic sewing kit (needles, pins, thread, scissors, etc.), bring it. Be sure to label everything with your name. Fabric swatches will be provided for the samplers. Needles, pins, thread and scissors will also be available for those who need them.
Facilitator Bio: Shana McCracken is a textile upcycler and eco-fashion writer. She is the Chair of the Waste Prevention Reuse & Repair Technical Council of California and is passionate about keeping clothing in circulation longer. She has a collection of mended vintage items, which she will display at the workshop.
Important Note: This workshop is not a repair café or fixit clinic. If you have a specific clothing item that needs repair, you are welcome to bring it and receive guidance. However, our main focus will be on creating the sampler.
