The Sustainability Academy’s Master Composter Course is a free 7-week course that will provide you with in-depth knowledge about home composting. This course is designed for and best suited to those without previous composting experience, but students of all levels are welcome. The course covers hot pile and worm composting methods, and explores composting methods for all types of spaces, from large gardens to kitchens. You do not have to have a backyard to participate in this course and start composting at home!
This is a great opportunity to meet people in your community with common interests; learn more about soil biodiversity, soil ecology, and solid waste reduction practices; and connect with local resource conservation organizations where you can do meaningful volunteer work.
This is an active class – students receive the composting container of their choice (either a worm bin or a backyard composting bin) at the beginning of class, and must be actively building and maintaining their compost system throughout the course.
Note: Master Composter students are required to attend at least six out of seven classes, and volunteer 40 hours within a year of course completion, to receive a Master Composter certificate.
Date: Tuesday evenings: June 1 (required, 1-hour pre-course meeting), June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20, July 27, and August 31 (8/31 is a “reunion” class that covers compost harvesting)
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Location: Zoom
