Do you want to start composting at home? Join us for a no-cost two hour workshop through the County of San Mateo’s Sustainability Academy to learn the basics of building your own backyard composting bin!

James Harper from Firewood Farms will teach you about:

  • The types of bins you can build
  • The difference between salvaged lumber and virgin lumber
  • Types of wood and hardware

The County of San Mateo Sustainability Department compost bin rebate program provides $200 rebates to San Mateo County residents and businesses who build their own compost bins.

Admission is free, but space is limited! Priority will be given to those who live, work, and go to school in San Mateo County.

If you register for the workshop, but your plans change, please contact the Sustainability Coordinator at sustainability@smcgov.org to deregister from the workshop so that those on the wait list can attend.

If you have any questions about the compost workshop, please email sustainability@smcgov.org or call 888.442.2666.

This no-cost educational program is made available through the County of San Mateo’s Sustainability Department.
